Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why should I register early?
A: Aside from the financial incentive to register early, there is a deadline for reserving a room in one of the on-campus accommodations. Pre-registration will also reduce the time you spend in line upon arrival.
Q: I'd like to attend the conference on just one day. Can I just buy a ticket there or should I
pre-register for the day?
A: You can walk in and register, but things will go MUCH faster for you if you pre-register. PLUS it helps us in our planning, but mostly, it'll get you in the events faster.
Q: Where is the best place to stay off-campus?
A: We have made arrangements with area hotels, with special conference rates for IDRS 2007 attendees. Reservations must be made by May 11, 2007 to obtain the conference rate. Please see the Accommodations page on our website for information and links to hotels. In addition to conference hotels, there are numerous Bed & Breakfast’s in and around Ithaca. Click on the following link to connect to the Ithaca Chamber of Commerce, for a complete listing of all accommodations.
Q: What is Ithaca’s weather like in June?
A Ithaca’s weather in June can vary a lot! The temperature usually ranges between 65-80 Fahrenheit, and can drop lower in the evenings. June can be rainy, but also can be positively sunny and beautiful, which is of course what we will hope for. Bring an umbrella, check the weather channel before you travel here, and talk to the sun gods.
Q: Will I need a car?
A: A car for conference participants is not necessary if staying in campus housing. If staying off campus, city buses make routine trips from downtown to Ithaca College.
Q: If I do have a car, where will I park, and how much will it cost?
A: Parking on campus will be free to all conference attendees. You will be issued a parking permit at registration, along with a map of available parking lots. Please note that IDRS 2007 will not be responsible for any parking violations you may incur, so do pay attention to which parking lots are available for attendees.
Q: Is there handicapped parking on campus, and where is it located?
A: There are handicap parking spaces outside of all of the buildings on campus. Please visit the following URL: http://www.ithaca.edu/map/safety.php *NOTE: The parking lot closest to each building has one or more spaces designated for persons with disabilities. Special parking permits are needed to use these spaces. Contact Parking and Traffic Services at 607-274-3756 for more information.
Q: How do I get to Campus Safety?
A: Enter the College through the enterance on 96B. You will see a turn-about in front of you. Take the turn as if you were making a left-hand turn. This road will curve around past the visitor's parking lot and various sports fields. You will come to a stop-sign with a lake on your left across the street. Turn left here. (This is also the first left you can make after the visitor's parking lot). Campus Safety will be the first building on your right slightly down the hill. If you start going over speed bumps, you have gone too far. The entire building is the Campus Safety Building.
Q: If I am coming from abroad, will I need a visa or passport?
A: You may or may not need a visa and/or passport to visit the U.S. for IDRS 2007. For more information, the official U.S. government website on this topic is:
http://travel.state.gov/visa/tempvisitors.html
It has links to almost all the other official sites you will need, including links to U.S. embassies and consulates in your home country. A general non-official site that has much valuable information is:
http://shusterman.com/toc-temp.html
Q: Can I eat on campus if I do not purchase a meal plan?
A: Yes, you may pay for individual meals at the dining halls. Ithaca College also has food available at “IC Square,” an open food court with several different food selections. IC Square is located in the same building where all the exhibitors will be selling their wares.
Q: Can I buy a partial meal plan if I am not able to stay for the entire conference?
A: No. Meal plans are available for the complete package rate of $140.00. As stated above, individual meals may be purchased for breakfast, lunch and
dinner in the dining halls.
Q: Is the $140 meal plan a money-card arrangement (like IDRS 2006 at Ball
State), or a standard dorm-cafeteria-style all-for-one-price arrangement?
A: It will be all-for-one price on a card that gets swiped to let you into the Dining Hall. This is only for dining hall meals. IC Square (which provides a variety of food and is open regularly from 11am - 4pm,) is only for cash purchases.
Q: Will there be vegetarian meal options on campus and off?
A: There are always vegetarian options in the dining hall, though there may only be one option per meal in the summer due to the lower numbers of people on campus. There are also always vegetarian options available in the Food Court for those who do not buy the meal plan.
Ithaca is home to MANY vegetarians and vegans, and many restaurants in town cater to this, notably the famous Moosewood restaurant, located downtown.
Q: Can I buy a ticket to a single daytime event?
A: No. Tickets are available on a daily basis for the ENTIRE days events only. Please see registration page on our website for daily prices.
Q: If I purchase a daily pass, can I bring a family member or do I need to purchase a second pass for him?
A: You will need a pass for both you and your family member
